Peter Zumthor

He works from a tiny Alpine studio and takes years per building because he's chasing the smell of wet stone and the sound of footsteps — architecture you feel on your skin before you understand it. Designed the Therme Vals thermal baths, an exercise in atmosphere, stone, water, and light that redefined phenomenological architecture.
