Robot Cowboys that Herd Cattle with AI Drones

Our Take

Most people building drones are photographing buildings or delivering burritos. GrazeMate said nah—we're sending robots to do the cowboy's job. This Y Combinator-backed startup built autonomous drones that herd cattle, check the herd, and monitor pasture and assets—all from a mobile app. No trucks, no horseback riding, no stress on the animals.

Ranching is a $60 billion industry in the US and it still runs on methods that haven't changed in a century. GrazeMate's AI-powered drones replace the manual labor of moving cattle across massive landscapes, giving ranchers eyes in the sky and hours back in their day. It's lower-stress for the cattle, faster for the ranchers, and honestly, it's just straight-up futuristic. They're currently in the pilot program phase, which means they're finding product-market fit the way YC companies do—fast, scrappy, and focused on proving it works before scaling.

The agriculture tech space is getting crowded with vertical farming and robot weeders, but cattle ranching has been largely ignored. GrazeMate just showed up with drones and said "we'll take it from here." Keep an eye on these ones.
