Our Take

Praveen Sampath looked at enterprise search and said "nope" to the expensive, locked-down alternatives. He built Omni—an open-source workplace search and chat platform that connects to Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, Confluence, Jira, HubSpot, and more. Think of it as a self-hosted Glean that doesn't cost a fortune and doesn't treat your data like it's someone else's product.

Here's the smart part: instead of spinning up Elasticsearch and a separate vector database like everyone else, Praveen built the whole thing on Postgres using ParadeDB and pgvector. BM25 for keyword search, HNSW vectors for semantic search, hybrid results that actually make sense. One `docker compose up` and you're running your own enterprise search engine. Teams bring their own LLM—OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini—and the chat interface gives that LLM actual tools to search your knowledge base, not just basic RAG that hallucinates answers.

The market for this is massive. Glean is out here raising hundreds of millions and charging enterprises an arm and a leg. Small to mid-size teams don't need that friction—they need something they can run on their own infra, extend however they want, and own completely. That's Omni. It's early, it's open-source, and it's exactly the kind of tool that makes enterprises realize they've been getting ripped off.
