Opal 2.0 by Google Labs
Now with smart agent, memory, routing and interactive chat

Our Take
Opal 2.0 is Google Labs' attempt to make AI feel less like a chatbot and more like an actual teammate. The new version adds a smart agent that can reason through tasks, memory that actually remembers what you told it last week, routing to send your requests to the right tool without you doing the legwork, and interactive chat that feels like talking to someone who read your docs. Version 2.0 signals Google Labs is done experimenting—they're building Opal into something competitive in the AI assistant space.
Not much else is public yet—no user numbers, no funding, just eight names on the team including Rohan Chaubey, Wai Hon Law, Blake Barnes, and Adjie Wisnu. But this is Google. When they ship something to Labs, they're usually planning to scale it. Opal 2.0 is the new kid on the block and it's already got the attention of everyone watching what Google's next act looks like.
