Our Take

Kiko Beats and the Microlink team got tired of juggling a dozen different tools to compress images and videos. So they built Optimo—a free, open-source CLI that optimizes and converts media using format-specific compression built on ImageMagick and FFmpeg. It supports pretty much every image format you can throw at it (PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, JXL, GIF, SVG) and video formats too (MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI, OGV). You want to resize by percentage, target a specific file size, or constrain by width or height? One flag does it all. Just run `npx optimo public/` and watch it strip the bloat—examples show reductions like 132 bytes from a PNG or 34.5 KB from a HEIC.

This is the tool you didn't know you needed. Everyone's building AI wrappers for everything, but Microlink said "we're just going to make your images smaller so your site doesn't load like it's 2005." The simplicity is the point—no flags to memorize, no guessing which tool does what. Just works. If you're shipping web stuff, this should be in your pipeline.
